Current striper run - advice needed
Have a charter this week and plan to bring my own gear. Can I get by with a spinning setup (I know the rod and reel are appropriate power/action for the size of the fish) but can I use 20# braid?
Also I assume I need 4oz diamond jigs with tubes as they are feeding on sand eels? I have tons of shad rigs but assume they are useless now? I’m going to tackle store tomorrow and trying to determine what additional tackle I need? Thanks. |

With correct drag settings. You can get by with 20# but IMO fighting bigger fish that will be released your releasing a fish that will become crab food .
Wearing them out with an extended fight they will swim away and end up dead on the bottom . Lots of fish well above 40# being caught , with the possibility every bite could be a much larger fish . Save the 20# for later runs of smaller fish . Tackle should include imitations of the forage they may be eating . Ava , shads , croc spoons , top waters should all be in your bag .
