Canyon Report FV-Slip It In
Headed out from SR to Toms Canyon Monday morning and found some really nice water and some life. Put out the spread and things were looking promising, but only had one short bite. Later in the afternoon did 2 deep drops for Swords with a new rig setup and no takers. Decided to head up to the Hudson for evening troll and had a fish take one bait to the bottom, and after almost spooling a 50w on 30lbs of drag, we started to gain some line back, after about 25 mins hook pulled. Trolled for another hour or so and nothing. Setup for sharking overnight and had a nice 200lb plus mako pull the hook about 10 seconds before we threw the dart. So day one, failure!
After our very disappointing 1st day we hoped that it would go better on Tuesday. Tuesday am we setup further inshore for some early am trolling and got a nice 40lb yellowfin in the box. After the yellowfin we started seeing tuna busting bait on the surface for the next few hours. But only saw one other boat hooked up. Then before lunch we hooked into a nice fish. Cleared all the lines and after about hour fight boated a nice fat 59 inch Bluefin. Headed back home to catch up on some sleep for work today. With all these big fish out there I really need to step top shots before I head back out there. Sorry for no photos right now but pics and video hopefully pretty soon. Pete |
