Default Outer Banks Surf-fishing Trip

Planning a surf-fishing trip to the Outer Banks in late September.
Never fished there before.
Looking for advise on targeted species, recommended tackle, preferred beaches, lodgings etc.
Greatly appreciate any help / advice.

Thanks in advance.

There's tons to catch down there! Unfortunately when I went they weren't really biting. I used a fishfinder rig baited with squid and caught 3 pinfish and that was it. Good luck though! It's beautiful there.

When you get there visit a local tackle shop, they will hook you up with everything you need, and tell you what's biting. I'm going to Hatteras 9/10/17 through 9/17/17 as I do every year usually do well with fluke, red drum, spanish mackerel, and some years pompano.

what area are you going to? Early am or just before dark casting pink stingsilvers with a light floro leader cast far and reel fast for spanish, Beach walking look for deep holes and cast lead heads with white tails for trout. One of the head boats in hatteras runs off shore trips always good

There are an abundance of sharks down there and it's quite easy to catch them off the beach. If you have a kayak paddle your baits out 200 yards. If not you can cast and get them. I did both while there and found we hooked bigger ones if we could get the baits out past 100 yards. Use fresh mullet and five feet of wire. Dusky/brown sharks and some very large Sand tigers.

Fishing piers are worth a visit, especially in the evening. I don't do great surf fishing there, but I try a lot. Mostly bluefish and spanish macks chasing bunker schools. The inlets and bays aren't bad either.
