Default Florida Keys

Looking to head down to the keys sometime in Feb. I am looking for some recommendations on lodging. My wife needs a beach and a pool, I need some fishing, preferably back bay inshore light tackle. Looking in the marathon or Duck key area. Not looking for Key West and the night life. Looking in the 200-250 a night range, just a clean place to warm up in the winter.

Although many people think the Keys are full of beautiful beaches it's not the case. A lot of mangroves and limestone in most areas. I've not been in Duck, but Sombrero Beach is the niceset beach Marathon. Its public so I would look for a place as close to it as I could find.

I agree. You can also check out Bahia Honda State Park near MP 40 or so. Beautiful beach about 10-15 minutes from Marathon Key. Marathon has plenty of charter captains that'll fish for whatever species you choose, inshore or offshore.

Holiday Inn Express in Marathon is good. nice pool, no beach though. it's also across the street from The Isalnd Fish Co., which has fantastic food and a great bar, and you can literally walk to the Marathon Lady

Went to Islamorada a few weeks ago, stayed at the Cheeca Lodge, fantastic place with all the amenities. If you are looking to go out with a top notch guide look up bayandreef.com Captain Xavier Figueredo is the best around, been out with him many times & always puts you on fish all day long, will fish for whatever species you want.

hawk's cay is nice. i've been there in the summer (off season) when the pricing is lower. wife will like the place and you are near some flats and cuts to fish up some bonefish, snapper, cuda's, etc. maybe tarpon too. you'll have to see what your best bet is in winter (they were all there in summer). you can also rent a boat there at the marina or hire a guide, but if you drive a little ways you can do the same for less money.
