STRIPERS in the Hudson

Piermont pier, Piermont,NY is giving up large(40") stripers at night on worms. You need to be put in the time to get them. Most of the others are small. Incoming tide works the best until high tide.This during the week. The season is "almost here"?..See 'ya all later, Rammie

There are a fantastic number of stripers that winter over there. In the early spring, you can see them on your fish finder, lined up on the salt line, waiting for the right water temp. Then they pass into fresh water and head up to Storm King mountain to spawn. Normally, they won't bite till after they spawn, then it's game on. Warmer winter may have helped this action. Catch 'em up...................Papa

Once years ago, I went on an early April charter up that way. We caught and released some huge breeders. The captain told us that they only bite eels during the spawn. This was not to feed as much as to prevent eels from eating the eggs.

Very interesting, Torchee. I remember in the early 1990's, that the NY State biologists did a shock and count on striped bass. They would put a charge in the water, and fish would come to the surface, stunned, and they would count. After their project was completed, they announced that there were well over 100,000 breeding fish in the Hudson at that time. I could not understand how they got that number, though, and it seemed so Crocadile Dundee to me....lol.
