Default Sat/Sun Gambler 24hr tuna

Capt Mike took us to the Hudson in sight of 3 other PB's in blue/green 66* water. Ride out was bumpier as we went. I picked the wrong trip to sleep topside, spray over wheelhouse wet everything...Anchored straight off and with swinging boat on her leash, had a steady pick of blue dogs all night. 1 porpoise swam by early on along with the occasional squid which were catch-able & a lone Mahi. NOAA was pretty correct as seas/wind lessened towards daylight with a legal sword boated and a mate-caught 45# bird caught after sun up. We set up a drift through the 4 slicks after the others left to no avail, just another blue dog run-off. They were there but we couldn't make em feed. Chummed dockside cast-net caught spearing which created a tuna boil along with birds off the stern like we did last Thursday with killies which again turned on the bite but not today. A few guys went for tile--boated one and several ling. Of the 4 PB's out there a total of 4-FOUR-tuna boated & 1 sword. We really couldn't search much given the rough conditions upon arrival. As always the crew, Todd(2nd Capt), Chris, Alex & Jeff(Capt.,angler & mate) kept us happy, entertained and tangle-free. Kudos to them as the Longfin was steaked so everyone took 2-3 steaks home!!! Very nice, indeed!
As good as last year was, this year is the opposite--it all evens out....The powers-to-be do indeed work in mysterious ways!!!!!

Was on a non sponsored boat out there Sat/Sun and we only had 1 yellowin and 1 Longfin. Conditions sucked as we swung all over the place on anchor. All fish on bait. Not a steady bite on jigs this year.

Yea, we saw you out there; you were last in line, I believe......have seen conditions much worse and much better...and yes, not a real productive jig year, for most...we swung too, but at least didn't have to keep switching from port to starboard to port, etc. to fish this time...but it was tough keeping the line off the chine and out of the running gear....oh well, it's a done deal now.....

YIKES! 66 degrees - usually not bad, but when water drops by 5 degrees in as many days, that's horrible. Many captain (some of the legends and best in the biz) have always said, "tuna will hold in water in the low 60's, provided the drop to low 60's was gradual, however if water temperature drop occurs quickly, the tuna wont stick around and will be gone"...At least you were out at the ledge again!
