Default Excellent Togging in RI to 9lbs!

I had the pleasure to be invited on a NS with my buddy Mike and Daphne out of RI yesterday. What started off as a cold slow morning turned into a warm non-stop lock-n-load afternoon with mostly all jig fish up to 9lbs! The views and structure up there is just amazing. Rock outcroppings just about everywhere in sight. I used the same 1oz jig on a spinning rod all day until finally switching over to a standard single hook rig for the last hour of the trip. Each one us had to have had well over 20 keepers with who knows how many smaller fish, ORL. Was crazy releasing so many beautiful 5-6lb fish so they could fight another day. Thanks to Yong and Dan at JiggingWorld for only taking a week to build me a new silver bullet 150 for the trip! Rod handled all those fish with ease! Screaming drag with a nice 8-9lb fish at the end of the line is just insane!! I'm not sure I'd recommend the jig thing around here with the high structure we fish, but up there it is something all tog lovers need to experience! My buddy Mike watched me for a good part of the day crush them on the jig until he finally switched over himself and caught on quickly! Already looking forward to a return trip!

As far a jig fishing here in jersey, not a problem. I understand that jigs do us just fine according to the blackfisherman I know. Something about a better presentation with the bait (crab) sitting right on the bottom. No dangling above the bottom as can happen with a standard rig. That plus you are always in direct contact with the terminal end of the line.

Thanks Jeff! You def have to take a trip north one of these days. The jig bite around here does work, I've done it. But doing it on a charter boat with 6-10 guys is tuff. When you hook a larger fish it takes off for the hills and with a light spinning outfit its tuff to stop them. I've heard horror stories of big fish tangling and taking out the whole boat, haha.

That's what they said about jigging for Fluke 10 -15 years ago..it's the future for togging.

Guys out in Long Island, CT and RI have been doing it for years... us Jersey boys are just starting to find out about it because of social media, etc. Right now with the bottom paved with tog, its doable. But come Dec/Jan when its 5degrees out with giants around, the regular rig will win every time.
