Default "As Good As It Gets" Limits of Yellowfin - And Then it Blew!

There's an old adage in fishing - with good fishing comes bad weather. That adage could have exemplified itself any better than over the past several days. Last week saw the best fishing of the season. The entire fleet from the Hudson to the Washington had great fishing with the best of it right in our backyard in the Hudson Canyon. We had limits on 3 of our 4 trips and the only trip without a limit we were focused on big-eye fishing - catching 2 for first and second place in the Manasquan River Marlin and Tuna Club Offshore Open - but that's a story for another day. It's those limits that interest us now and will it continue?

What finally brought in those fish were the first big signs of squid all year - and that's what should hold them there. We do expect to be back in on the fishing by Thursday as the storm is finally fizziling out so we'll know then if the great fishing continues. But man was it good last week.

Last week almost every boat out in the Hudson caught as many yellowfin as they wanted. We got in 4 charters total last week and the guys all had as many yellowfin as they wanted with a couple of our charters ending early as the guys were just too tired to reel anymore. And to top it off for you hands on guys - we chunked and jigged all these fish with 2 trips in a row seeing no trolling whatsoever. The best thing about this bite is it was almost all big yellowfin - 45-65 pounds with some over 70 and only a few under 45.

So - is it going to be a fall to remember - it was for sure a July/August to forget. We'll know within 48 hours - stand-by!
