![]() bottom fishing report August 20 Saturday, we were bottom fishing today and yesterday, I did not file a report yesterday, but it was pretty much just like today, porgy fishing at its best, some Seabass , and a few fluke. The good fishing and beautiful weather was marred Today when I was alerted, that one of my best friends ,and accountant , had collapsed on another boat, and was unresponsive. He was later pronounce dead at Jersey shore hospital , His name was Abe Beren, From Staten Island , New York. Abe was a close friend of mine and a good friend to all fisherman, giving tax advice , and financial advice , To anyone that was on the fishing boats that he fished on. Abe was also a fantastic fisherman, he had the ability to concentrate, concentrate to the Point where he was almost in a trance, and it seemed his best fishing days were on the toughest days, or in the worst weather. He fished avidly, and intensely . He would often stand glued to the rail on the coldest winter days waiting out a black fish . He got his biggest tog on my boat , 15 1/2 pounds, also I believe his biggest fluke which was a shade over 11 pounds. A side from his fishing skills he was a kind, bright, soft-spoken gentlemen, he will be sorely missed by myself and , my Deck Hand and co- Captain Bill Boardman, and all the close friends that he made on the boat, who's privilege it was to have fished with him.

![]() I've been a close fishing buddy of Abe's for many years, and I am heartbroken by the news of his passing. Everything Ray said about Abe is spot on, and you would be hard pressed to find a nicer guy. Abe had a real passion for fishing. I loved being on the water with Abe and competing to see who could catch the biggest fluke of the day. Most of the time Abe caught the first fluke, the first keeper, the largest fluke, and the most fluke. He was truly a gifted fisherman with as good a soul as anyone you will ever meet. Myself, and all of our close fishing buddies Alan, Paul, and Carmen, will miss him dearly.
