Default Really nice fishing on the Rock Bottom

Got an invite from Dales to tag along and fish some fluke tourneys today. With Sharky, Mike two guys, Ron Jr our mate and Ron SR our Capt. Well first of all very happy Ron decided to make the trip. Guru and NOAA got it wrong again. It was 3-5 but they were 2 1/2 hours apart. Booth the 5 and the 3 were boat wakes lol. Flat as a plate of piss until the afternoon blow. Ron took us to the place he had in mind all along. Had very good bite and some nice fish. Dales wasn't feeling well so he was side lined for most of the trip . Now before I get to the fish I need to apologize to Ron Jr. He was reeling up what we thought was a really nice fish. I grabbed the net ( yeah first dumb thing I did) he finally gets it to the top I go for it with the net as I'm swiping he says no wait !!!! Too late it was a double one on the top teaser one on the buck tail. I never saw the bottom fish at all. Ron Jr did said it was a big fish. For him to say that seeing as how he's out there all the time made my heart sink to my stomache. So sorry Ron Jr and to our entire crew and Captsin. I never saw it . So we proceed to catch more fish I get what I thought was going to come to be a real nice fish. Ended up 6 lbs . That was are big fish because of my mistake. Sorry again. Sharky got a nice fish 4.8 lbs I got another at 4lbs that ended up being our 3 top fish. Once again my bad . We ended up with 23 keepers some nice bags of fillets but came up short in the tourneys. Damn I wish I actually saw that fish but if I did I'd probably be throwing up right about now. All in all great day, very good fishing, great peeps, great Capt and mate and a dunce cap for yours truly. Thanks for all the great effort Ron SR and Jr see ya again soon. hoping I don't get a look at that fish in my sleep tonight sorry guys. Oh one last thing had a few really nice Sea Bass Too I mean really nice

Lots of good calls made about this trip, starting with the invitation from Dales to join the crew and take a break from running my own boat, having a full can of sun screen, 6 pack of water( yes, hot as ball$), bringing the extra block of spearing ( they ate it like kids in a candy store ), my hoagies were made right this time ( Bwahahaha for those who follow my FB posts), the captains call to stick to his original game plan on where to fish, not bringing any beer and drinking Dales since he was not up to par ( six on me next trip pal), making extra round heads but not really busting too many off this trip. Had a great time on my first trip on Rock Bottom charters, starting out with another great sunrise to mark in the memories. Capt found fish quickly for us and made appropriate moves throughout the day to find more as bite died and conditions changed. Pulled quite a few fish all day with the many "just short" fish mixed in between the 23 keepers Joey posted here as well as the nice Sea Bass caught. Can't beat Joe up on the bottom fish Ron Jr. had as I didn't get a chance to see it while on a hook up also, all I know is it was "the shot heard round the world" so to speak as when we got to the docks Ron Jr's sister said " Yeah , I got a text about a big fish not getting netted"......Doooooh! Joe's head sank! I could only laugh hearing it...All is good Joe as we don't know if it would have beaten an 8+ lb fish which won the FSOS tourney or doubtfully given us 22lbs for combined weight which took first or even the 18+ that took 3rd in SWABC, another tourney we were in..All in all, another great day on the water doing what I/others love to do...chase for the fish....Thanks Captain and hope to see you out there from my boat and get back out with you again some time.

Enjoyed your post. I own the Grady berthed next to Rock Bottom and was at the docks when you guys came in. Impressive catch! If I knew that was you and Mike who chartered Ron that day I would have introduced myself. Regarding your unfortunate mishap, many people would have not even posted at all. Or they would have said Ron Jr took too long to say wait, or the water was too murky, or the sun was in my eyes, or if someone else picked up the net I wouldn't have had to net a fish on a charter I paid for! All BS. You took the high road and took responsibility for your action......GOOD for you. We all have had big fish, especially fluke, boatside with mishaps. These big guys are like Houdini when it comes to throwing a buck tail. Swimming backwards with their mouths open, monster head shakes, they have the uncanny ability to throw a buck tail. Not that often you see double headers especially when one is the size it sounds the one you lost was. Very unfortunate in this case the second fish grabbed the teaser. It's a mistake probably 7 out of 10 guys would have made seeing and going for the first fish visible. But the fact you posted and took ownership speaks volumes about your character. Good for you! You'll be out with Rock Bottom next year and have your day! Ron Sr. and Jr are great guys and run a top notch charter. 23 keepers is a great day no matter how you slice it, the one that got away stings a bit but you were on the fish all day from the sounds of it. Good stuff!
