Default fluke from surf (not a report)

I usually fish the party boats out of AH or with my buddy on his boat, but on occasion I hit the beach anywhere between keansburg and belford. When I was younger I did ok dragging a killie/squid combo slowly through the surf, but I've probably hit the beach here 15-20 times without a touch using small jigs and teaser (a typical "skinner" setup, although sometimes I use a leadered teaser for top hook). When I hit the beach it's usually a spur of the moment thing, not paying much attention to tides, but I have caught the first few hours of both incoming and outgoing, and still no luck, has anyone else been skunked so bad along this stretch for fluke? I have caught bluefish trying for stripers.

cheers

Keansburg - Belford is a consistent 6 ft flat when casting from the surf.

You'll catch some fluke there when the temps are cool but try this.

Walk all the way right up to Belford channel where the sea streak departs. Cast toward the buoy. You'll be casting into a 20 ft channel.

I sometime park my kayak there to stretch my legs and cast, I've caught a few keepers this year from that point.

Thanks for info. I can never seem to get parking near the condo's down there when I want to fish, I guess I can walk the beach from further up. When I first moved here almost 11 years ago there were 2 guys wading in that area and were catching small weakfish (they released all that I could see) casting in to that channel, couldn't see what they were using, but some sort of small jig/plastic combo.

cheers

You can park on a street and go through the condos to get to that spot. There is a trail that you will be able to find easy if you not in a mood to go through the beach.

That being said was there last night on outgoing actually with no love at all with only one hit that I missed. Rest were just crabs tearing the bait to shreds.

Good luck.

Andre
