![]() Can I legally launch from highlands and go to my side and fish for sea bass and porky then return to new jersey port with limits of sea bass or porky? Any help appreciated

![]() Unfortunately not... The way the law works is you have to be in compliance with the regs in whatever state you happen to be in or run though at any given point in time.
As an example, if you were to go over to the NY side what ever you have in the box would have to meet NY regulations while in those waters. If those same fish are out of season or outside the bag and size limits, once you cross over into NJ, even though they were caught in NY, you'd be out of compliance. One other thing... If you plan to fish in NY waters, you have to have a NY Registry card since your NJ registry is not reciprocal with NY. Kind of screwy having different regs and seasons in NY and NJ. However, what this does is allow the states to have some flexibility and autonomy in choosing their regs and seasons. I think that's a good thing since these sorts of decisions should be left to the individual states according to what's in their best interest. If were lumped together with NY then they be fighting for the regs they want and we'd be fighting for the regs we want and whatever is decided applies to both. What usually happens here is one state gets screwed.
