Default 4/16, 4/17 report and FYI about Earle

4/16- trolled around some blue and chartreuse umbrella rigs at the end of outgoing and went 6 for 6 with 2 keepers to 17lbs. Tons of marks but fish were very finicky.
4/17 trolled around again everywhere again at the end of outgoing. Up and down from great kills to the triangle and not a touch all day. Tried stretches and umbrella rigs but nothing. Didn't see a single person catch a fish today when I was out. At least the weather was nice cause fishing sucked for us today.

FYI- Earle took down the marker buoys and don't intend to put them back. The only way to know if you are within the restricted zone is to check your gps. Make sure you have marked out 750 yards in every direction. The coast guard will board your boat and do a safety inspection if you do happen to be within that range, so make sure your safety equipment is up to date.

Be careful and tight lines

Have a small 17' depth finder no gps
So what's the plan. Boarded by coast Guard last September and passed have documentation from inspection
Gotta get a better clarification on maintaining adequate distance. Oh by the way 3 month grace period on flare dates. Saved my butt

In my 14 foot tin boat I shall never be without my retired military ID card out there. Might cut me a break!

I called the Coast Guard Station and I called Earle. The buoy's have been removed. The officer I talked to at Earle said you still need to maintain the same distance from the pier which is approximately 750 yards in all directions - She wouldn't say why they removed the buoy's or when they would be replaced but I gathered they are going to be replaced at some later time. She did say that the PATROL BOATS WILL BE OUT and they will ticket you! Glad we still have the buoy positions from our GPS map.

Funny

The two places people need them most is coming out of Leonardo and going north. That the Red-green buoys out front. The red is outside the security zone and the green one is inside.

That zone will become a free for all short cuts . Especially if no ships are in port.

The USCG does not have a boat there. The navy inconsistently patrols the area with their grey boat. Sometimes there's no boat on duty even with ships at the Earle docks. Go figure!
