Default kdc contest

got an email, the second kdc ice fishing contest is officially canceled...maybe the third one will go...

if anyone wants to get in on a legit contest, lake shawnee will have another one on february 20. It's a private lake but i think the more the merrier for the contests. send me a pm i'll ask the coordinator.

Personally I wouldn't hold out too much hope of another re-schedule for the KDC event. Unfortunately for all of the hard water enthusiasts it appears we've had just about all of the serious cold we'll see this winter. Still feeling the last effects of that strong 'El Niño' in the pacific.

On the positive side at least we won't be battling snowpack and frozen ponds/lakes for the pre-season stocking and opening day/weekend of trout. Heck, if things continue as they are at present I'm gonna be having a lot of good trouting before the spring stocking closure in mid-March!

You might be right about lake Hopatcong but Shawnee will be fine. Had 8" of black ice and the nights will be cold again soon. So if anyone wants in, let me know.

I agree big waters have no chance after today but the smaller bodied that had 6-12" going into today will rebound, shorelines are probably shot but should build back up pretty fast next week. Even the worst years I've always been in the ice I'm late February and most years into march

For the sake of you hard water gents I truly hope you're right. I know how cranky I can get if I have to go too long between outings. I can't imagine if I added ice fishing to my list and then couldn't find a pond hard enough to walk on!

nothing is going to stop me from fishing year round. that's one of the great things about NJ. Might not be world quality trophy fishing for the most part, but we always have places to fish and many many different species to target. no fishable ice...then always open water for the boat or wading.

In checking out the forecast it looks like all of the ice enthusiasts might just get a decent shot at the larger water bodies after all, at least for a while. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed hoping you gents manage to get in a decent season. All I ask in return is that you say a prayer to the fishing gods for some warmer weather here by mid March!
