Default It's been years..but I'm back to freshwater

Spent the past decade fishing Raritan Bay Sandy Hook.
The fishing has changed and the boat got too expensive. I am getting back into the freshwater scene simply because its more affordable and easier to do on any given day. I am currently looking into a kayak to throw in the back of the truck and just go. Any suggestions on a sit on top?
Also will they be stocking rivers in Bergen County area this year? I know they didn't because of some kind of fish disease or something the past year or so.

Also - if there are other yak fisherman out there looking for a buddy to go fishing with this spring hit me up!

Thanks!

Welcome back, nj really does have some great fw fishing opportunities and some great fisheries that you would have to travel pretty far to find else where.

We have some great guys that do a ton of kayak fishing that I'm sure will chime in. I do some but just out of a cheap sit in and not too familiar with the different brands.

Best of luck

The normal stocking schedule is back in full swing as of last year. There will be plenty of Rainbow Trout in your local waters come April! As for the kayak, make sure you try it before you buy it! I have a cheap yak and got my money's worth out of it! It's just not comfortable for me anymore so I'm saving it for my kids! The serious yak guys on here will be able to point you in the right direction! Good luck out there man. Let us know how you do!

Not sure what area of Bergen County you are from but if you are looking for quick after work sessions you can fish the Ramapo or look into getting the permit for fishing the reservoirs. BC also has a bunch of small ponds that hold bass, pans, and some big carp. None of that water is yakable. Carp, white perch, and seasonal runs of stripers are in the Hackensack River. Once you pick up a kayak, your options grow...Passaic River, all the state park lakes, the Delaware.....You might even find yourself back out on the Raritan Bay in that thing.
