I remember him yelling and screaming and carrying on with his crew when we were fishing. His boat coud be a football field away but you could hear every thing he said. Truely a legend.

It was a privilege to meet him at an NJFishing.com holiday party at JJBitings a few years back. Going through the scrapbook he brought was a pictorial lesson of saltwater fishing in NJ through the years.

What amazed me most that night was when looking at pictures of NJ Stripers from the 70s/80s, Jakesdad's voice boomed over my shoulder - " . . and on whose boat did you catch those ? . . " - yep, they were caught on Jakesdad's Sweet Baby Jane

You will be missed Captain. The NJ Saltwater fishing community lost a good one.

Had the priviledge to fish with Captain Bob a few times out in the Canyon a few years back, he was quite a character.

Tough as nails and very determined but he also had a soft spot for people who wanted to learn and had an interesting story to tell to relate to just about every topic or situtation that would come up. He'd be talking to you in his low intent voice, praticially putting he and you in a trance reaccounting one of his fishing adventures. Next thing you know, the hair on the back of his neck would stand up and he'd start barking orders at the mate or someone fishing. A few seconds later, right back into the story trance.

Dave on the Tuna.com and several others cut their teeth fishing for Giant Tuna with Bob. He was a mans man, a piece of New Jersey fishing history and will be missed.

Fair winds and following seas Captain Bob. RIP.

My condolences to his family. "Legend" is an understatement. The fishing community was undoubtedly changed by Bob in so many ways. I know there are so many out there who knew him better than I did, but I can honestly tell you that some of my best experiences in fishing were just sitting with Bob dockside at Brielle Yacht Club as his boat neighbor and listening to his many stories. Knowing his reputation, I was always so amazed that Bob would even talk to me, no less share with me as much as he did! But he was a true gentleman - and the kind of person and Captain we can only aspire to be!

Sorry to here of his passing. I have known Bob since working for him in the late 60's. His love for fishing was above and beyond, he always expected the best, and always let you know that.

As Hart Attack said many of his original Striper trips where on my boat. We would run a charter on the original Ol' Salty, come in get the boat clean and turn around and run out on my 30 Ulrickson the Half Moon. Spent many hours with Bob , Phil, Roy, JImmy, Chuck and others out on the rocks trolling and jigging.

He loved fishing so much there where many times we where not chartered or the crew didn't show, so we would just get everyone on the dock and go.

He was an incredible transmission mechanic, how many times Bobby re-built Tom Bryant's transmissions on the dock, I lost count.

Memories my friend, RIP, you were a one of a kind.

Henry
