Default Need Advice - Dominican Republic

Hey guys,

I'm heading to Punta Cana next week and im looking to do some fishing. i am hoping to get as much intel as possible before i go.

Im planning to bring some light spinning get with some small metals and some lures to fish the beach early morning before my wife wakes up. Anybody got info on how to fish the surf in punta cana?

Also, im hoping to book a half day charter one of the 7 days. Any recommendations. I hate trolling, are there any other options of fishing? good captain? any other tips?

All info is helpful and greatly appreciated.

thanks,

Nate

I got a local to take me to the reef for a couple of hours, in his snorkel rental boat. was kinda fun.
If you go on a trolling trip have fun crossing the reef there if there is a swell.

Small metals and bucktails (1/2 oz -2 oz) with a small (size 6) teaser fly will get action..depending on the resort...snappers, jacks, etc..fast, bluefish retrieve should do it...some resorts the reef comes close to the beach... if you can pack it, recommend 8 foot 12 pound spin outfit in case you need the distance.. with lighter gear like 6 pound try small 1/8-1/4 oz jigheads with 1 inch twister tails (basically freshwater crappie jigs!) for bonefish...as was mentioned, if you can get a local to take you to probe the reef it is fun! if nothing else the cuda will be patrolling the edge..offshore trolling?? unless you catch a hot mahi/wahoo bite it really isn't worth it..Good Luck!

Find a legit cab driver and ask him for local help....Other wise.... enjoy the beach, sun, and Rum
