Talking Northern Stargazer off the Surf

A face only a mother could love!! Hooked into this hefty beast yesterday (along with tons of fluke and snappers!) off the surf in Point Pleasant. Baitfish were jumping and birds were picking all day. Water was so calm and clear it was a definitely day to remember.

This stargazer put up no fight but was so heavy it was like reeling in a wet towel. So slimy and oddly shaped and HEAVY there is really nowhere to grab it. What a cool fish. YouTube northern stargazer and check them out in action. Hoping to not step on one of these monsters in the near future (or ever).

I have been on these boards since I moved to Jersey in October and look forward to hopefully posting a picture of my first striper in the next few weeks!!

They are ugly. They also can deliver a shock so angler beware.

Order a dehooker from Chuck The Anchorman. You will be able to flip the fish over the line and it will pop off into the surf without touching it. Works great on skates and sea robins also.
