![]() The wife and kids want to take the boat to the beach. Horseshoe cove is the only place I can think of in the sandy hook area. Any tips or suggestions? Is it legal? I've never been there. Do you beach the boat? Or just get close and put out the anchor? I don't have a swim platform so I'm not to sure how the old lady is going to get back in either. Thanks for any info!

![]() Horseshoe cove is great to anchor/spend the night and kayak/paddle board. The ocean beach is a trek from there. There is some beach at horseshoe.
That cove too you need to enter from the south side of it, especially during low tide. The north side has wood posts submerged at high tide. These are off the bunkers and 50yds south from there. They become visible at low. As you enter the amount of water is about 3' during low on north side. You can see a color difference of water depth on the south side, it is deeper. How much I'm not sure, I haven't been there in a while. |

![]() When anchoring in spermecettis cove you really have to watch the water depth. As previous posters have mentioned there are submerged logs that can do a number on the prop. When going to this area depending on whether you are coming from the north or south the best guide to avoid hazards and very low water is to head east cutting across the water using the A frame home on the western shore as a guide. If your coming from the south make a right heading east once you are parallel with the A Frame or make a left if you are coming from the north. Once you are on the other side you will see all of the other boats anchored up. You will need an anchor for the bow and stern along with bumpers. The water level drops significantly on the falling tide so take that into consideration when dropping the bow anchor. Once that anchor is set ease it back nice and slow and raise your motor if you have an outboard. When you are within about 5 ft of the shore someone has to jump off to set the stern anchor on the beach. This info is for anchoring on the inside of the cove and not the outside. It`s definitely a lot of fun out there. Enjoy and be safe.
