I never caught this before..Probably super common haha..what is it?! Put him on 10 mins ago..released.

Looks like a Squeteague. Very rare in NJ waters. Word is, if you're lucky enough to find them, you can keep one.

Many of us that remember the haydays of catching weakfish, and loved it, are now releasing those beauties. When you hold a 10 pounder in your hands, there may not be a more beautiful fish swimming in our waters. But she can have 50,000 to 100,000 eggs in her each year we let her live. Someday they will return in abundance, like the blowfish, but I may not be alive to see it in the next 20 years. . Photo and release is my key. Catch ém up. .......Papa

FYI- NJ-1 fish @13" and yes it's the sometimes elusive Weakfish.
