![]() It had been almost a year since our last fishing trip with the original crew all together.....Of course they all started whining when I told everyone I want to be the first rig on the horizon....but they were ready anyway at 130am Friday August 27....so we slide Roy's 34 YF off his lift and off we go.....get to the Squan River RR bridge only to find out the bridge is closed for emergency repair till 4 am.
Well just short of a mutiny the guys took a much needed 2 hour snooze waiting for the Bridge to let us bust loose. Broke inlet at 405am two hours behind schedule..... I threw out the fact that I heard the bite was later in the mid afternoon the last couple days looking for some compassion instead I get a huge Bashing!! Oh well I'm used to that from this crew my son Dan who likes his sleep like his Mom leading the bashing!! We get to the grounds around 700am using a modest 24 knot cruise. Down come the riggers and we put a quick simple spread of 4 spreader bars two splash and one Blue Water candy covered hoo semi long down the middle. pulling lines for the first almost three hours jumping up to a 11 rod spread slowly. Nada on the Tuna but did pick off a real nice Mahi around 12 pounds. Finally started seeing some Tuna chicks and some slicks but it could have been from all the meat that the hundred plus boat fleet was winging. Finally went to my old ways and got away from the whining fleet to try and find some hope. After an hour of searching started to get the screen looking like its suppose to.....so we start really winging the meat and all of a sudden a few top water splashes and Todd wings his orga slider into the splashes and bam he's on.... My son wo is cutting bait and playing with the bait rods misses a couple with a circle hook....I yell change the dam hook these are not bluefin....hooks up immediately on a regular Gami....just as he hooks up Todd hooks up his second Tuna on an Orca again.....then John hooks up on a Ron Z and its game on....we end up like 5 for like 9 on that spurt....and it dies. back on the search we look around and again find the pods....and its game on again...this one shorter period of time but we still managed another 3 for 4 ratio finally improving. one last search provides another 1 for 2 spurt..... Its now 5pm Roy yells out I gotta go I got a date with a hot blonde tonight....his boat so he rules!!! I hand the controls to Go Fast Roy and we 50 knot it back to Squan inlet!!! not bad for a Reunion fishing trip ...can't wait to get back out there again....maybe try some fly rods this time if Roy ever desires to teach me!!! Crew: Go fast Roy Taverner Orca Todd Finetto ( high hook ) Calm and Cool Johnny Larue Hooligan Boii Danny Gozzo and yours truly Hooligan Sal Gozzo Orca sliders did the most damage in the larger size!!!
