It all started with an April fools trip several years back on a non sponsor out of PP, since then it has blossomed into a passable fishery ! We actually have bigger cod than up north albeit less of em' !
GOM closure may add a few to the pot , prior to this hardly anyone bothered to fish cod since they were not available in solid numbers.
It's really is King !!

Nice report and good to see the codfish here in NJ.

Years ago we had them around in the summer but rarely bothered with them because we targeted other species. Now they are back in decent quantities due to the previous build-up in population due to the closures up north during the 80's and 90's.

As the population increased cod made there way down here as they have in the past. Unfortunately, unless there is any real long term management up in New England, the cod fishing here will taper off to nothing as it did in the past.

Lets hope for the best. This winter may be good for cod as well given all the fish around in the summer.

Leif
