Default Sullivan County NY?

I m renting a lake house this weekend in Eldred NY (Sullivan County) with some buddies and wanted to see if any of you had experience fishing in that area? We will be on a private lake (Lochanna Lake) but plan to spend one day on a nearby lake. Any suggestions? We are primarily looking for good Bass fishing but will take anything we can catch. Thanks!

In honesty fished only in one spot in this area.

http://www.swingingbridgepoa.com/lakefacts.html

Swingbridge Reservoir.

Do not know the current condition of the place since I fished there years back when my friend had a house there.

Place has two marinas, not sure if they do rentals there so do not quote me on this.

Good for bass from my experience.

Personally landed only carp and catfish there with my friends hooking up with bass.

Place is big with some shore access but a lot of it is private property.

Enjoy and let us know how you do.

Andre

For a good starting point go to this site... http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/7749.html
On the left-hand menu you'll see 'Public Fishing Rights Maps'. You can click that and then click on the region you're interested in.
Also back on the first page, click on 'Region 3' on the blue state map and it'll take you to a page listing all the public ponds/lakes by county for that DEC region.

swingingbridge is a beautiful reservoir with good fishing but you gotta know it or be good to fish it well, its kinda like fishing LH. They have a good walleye population but up that way all the lakes hold the usual LM and panfish+pickeral. When Im away on a new body I find what the local bait is and at least fish one rod w live bait to guarantee some catches, then toss ur usual stuff in between. If you have a boat and are moving around u have better chances and more places to hit

My father used to take us to the eldred preserve many moons ago. We'd rent a boat and fish all day. It was artificials only and we'd tag bass, chains, crappie, and perch consistently. Fun days for sure. Big bass roamed those waters. Last I heard they shut the preserve. Good memories... I'd look into what happened to the lakes back there. Someone's gotta own them now!
