Default 2 day tilefish trip

Left Pt Pleasant Beach Sunday night with a group of great guys on a party boat for the long ride out to the deep. Woke up before dawn as the boat slowed down. Within an hour the sun was up, and we were fishing in 350 to 400'. Mostly a slow pick of blue lines in the morning, we would repeat the drift if the fish were biting, if not we moved a bit and drifted again. Sometime in the early afternoon we got into the fish and double headers were coming in over the rails, mostly 4 to 8 lb blueline tiles with a few nice goldens mixed in, I saw one that looked to be 30#, I got plenty of 8 to 15# goldens. There were also some rose fish and a couple of huge hake. By the end of the first day my 120qt cooler was almost 3/4 full!! That night I slept while some of the guys stayed up chumming for sharks, and jigging some squid, no real life showed up that night. Next morning we moved into 800'+ of water and began nailing some bigger goldens as well as some rose fish, a streamer bass or two, a few bluelines, and one big 15lb barrelfish. Although the fish were bigger, I could not match the first day, I caught 5 or 6 goldens before the boat headed in for the 6 hr ride. There were 7 or 8 fish in the contention for the pool, all right around 30lbs by my estimate. Now it's time to prepare the vacuum bagger!! Next trip is on June 14th.

I hear ya. Sometimes you have to use 5lbs of weight or more just to hold bottom. On those days a lot of guys do not have enough line on their reels to even reach the bottom.

Question Re: 2 day tilefish trip

Just curious if the 7 blueline tilefish/trip limit was causing fish to be wasted by being tossed overboard?

I did not realize that, as I thought the Fed made emergency regulations for now at 7 fish/man/trip.http://www.eregulations.com/newjerse...ederal-limits/
