![]() So,
First off my hat is of to all who braved the wind to go out chasing trout on Saturday. And it was hat off, I mean it probably still swimming up in Farrington. Instead of chasing trout I decided to go with friends chasing spring crappie. Was up at 5am and was out on the lake at 7am. Wasted way too much time looking for the bait shop that was open in surrounding area and only one we managed to find was Freds Bait and tackle on 35 and only because he showed up early to open up. Thanks a lot. So set up on the honey hole and wind is blowing like crazy. Within the hour bucket tipped over and half of our bait was gone swimming away. Casting was a nightmare and only action we saw was a nice bass making an appearance splashing around. Couldn't get him though. After an hour an half of this early morning nightmare decided to hit up Ireland Brook for some trout. Season before I spied some holes that I wanted to try. Ha .... good luck to that all the spots that I knew were already taken and more people were moving in. Now I was getting worried having made my friends get up bright and early and not being able to put them on some fish. Suggestions flew around but with morning already gone none wanted another two hour drive. So last ditch effort was made. Forced them to go to the pond/lake at East Brunswick Community Park. Lucky for us the area we went to was downhill so we were covered from the wind with water being relatively calm. I was the only one unpacking my rod though since I never fished there for ones and seeing how the morning went no trust was going my way. Pressure was on and after saying a quick prayer to fish gods I casted out. Yes ...fish gods heard me loud and clear. 10 minutes later I was reeling in a nice pickerel. Thank you fish gods. Having confirmed that the body of water held fish, rest went quickly to unload and cast out. Turned out to be a nice day out. Bait was getting chased left and right and toothy critters were picked off one after another. Size was averaging 15-16 inches and all were male. Also we managed to hook into a nice 14 inch crappy but could not get his buddies out as well. Left home with 12 of the slime darts and rest were released. Great day, great times and my dignity was saved. Pictures should be added later if I get them. ![]() Andre Last edited by Andrushkin33; 04-06-2015 at 04:41 PM.. Reason: Pic added |
