Default Musconetcong vs Pequest

Hey all, my son and I have been going to the musconetcong river the last few years for trout at some of the more popular places. i am going to go on a scouting mission looking for some less crowded spots but which is your preference between the 2 rivers or is there another that you prefer more? I'm not looking for exact spots.

Thanks in advance, tight lines and bent rods to all!

I hit the Pequest probably on a 10-1 ratio over the Musky....tho it's primarily out of laziness....I only live a mile from the Pequest vs. a 15 minute drive to the Musky. Did I mention I was lazy?

Honestly, I don't think there's much difference between the two generally.

If I were you I'd spend the first couple of opening hours at a familiar place and then do some exploring later.

keep in mind many 'popular' spots get more trout and more bigger trout. they want people to catch! I personally fish a popular spot that is borderline over crowded but i've caught 4 tagged big guys in the past 3 year opening days!

Ditto on WW ratio but not for reasons of laziness.....I typically find bigger fish in the pequest and there is less private water with tons of access....

With the weather forecast coupled with the 8:00 am start time, I wait until Sunday and get up at O dark thirty and fish until 9:00 am the go home.
The Pequest has more public access but parking can be a challenge
