Default Pike After Work (3/23/15)

Had a little bit of time after work yesterday for a few casts on the Passaic. Ended up with a nice little pike. Not a big fish by any stretch, but certainly nice to fish some open water after the last month of frigid weather.

The Passaic is running nice & high. It is a good time to launch a boat above Little Falls now. You can run up past BIG PIECE with a v-bottom now if you are really careful & have back power options just in case. This area is normally for the jon boat/kayak/canoe UNLESS YOU LIKE BUYING NEW PROPS!

I went out for the first time on the passaic yesterday. No luck, I threw the kitchen sink at it but the water was high and moving pretty fast and it didn't do me any favors

Yeah, high fast moving water is usually no good. I have a few spots that produce well during high water periods.

Its waaaaaay too high for us bank beaters - or at least for me. Generally its not low enough until July(below 13'@ Pine brook). I drove over where it goes under 280 and you couldn't even tell where the river banks were as it was spread out over dozens of acres flooding fields & woods right up to the highway. We'll get another 0.5-1" of rain thursday which will send it up again probably near 19-20'. Its going to be a long wait for it to come down. In the mean time (im)patiently waiting for lakes and ponds to open up. In all honesty it could be until the second week of April until the larger ones do. Def one of the latest I've ever seen ice on lakes in the last 40 years.

Finding them in high water separates the amateurs from the veterans! Nice job getting one to bite.
