More than a few of us are discussing emmigrating to the southern tog bite : figured this might be a spot someone may want to put up their info for a buddy or two or a convoy...

Yup! Very interested. Sea Isle city, AC, Delaware or even Maryland? Been wanting to do that for a few years now.

I hate to bust your bubble but I spoke to an experienced good captain out of Cape May this morning. I was going to fish and stay over for two days. He advised me to stay up north and fish. He said it's the worse year he can remember for blackfish. He stressed the word worse. Not even a bite of little ones. He was very dis-hearted but totally honest. He had no answer of why, other than saying the fish just aren't there this year like usual. He said the sea bass are too far off their shore to make the those trips worthwhile.
This captain is a good man and fisherman. I don't see why he would turn away customers. So I believe him.

Had a great day out of AC last Saturday? No big fish but boat limit by noon?

I would strongly disagree. Bite has been very good for the boats I know as well as my own since the "opening". Haven't heard of a lot of big fish caught, but most the wrecks I've dropped on have good populations of aggressive fish.

Oddly enough I've fished down there several times over the years. Fished Md, De, CM, & AC region.
I've had decent days but ALL my teenagers came from northern ports!
Not to say I never caught double digit Tog in these areas but so have I up north.
I believe that UR competition is less down south , perhaps this may lead to a true trophy quicker , never know plenty of big fish caught in r area as well!
The key may be a little luck & perseverance ! Note new state record tog taken off LI recently ! Really nice fish!
I also believe that u must develop a specific technique when chasing trophies but no really knows for sure.
Luck always will play a part that I'm convinced of !!

My two friends who fish down there are doing quite well. On my one trip, I had 12 keepers with 2 fish a little over 10 which is average for those parts on a small boat with a good capt.

I have been fishing for tog for 30 years from MA,RI,NY.NJ,DE,MD,VA.
I have a list of people I call whenever I set up short notice trips in search of double digit tog or when looking for someone to drive down with.

My routine has been to start in RI in late Oct and early Nov prior to our NJ opening on Nov 16. I then stay local fishing NY, NJ through Dec. Once Jan comes around I start heading south Atlantic City, Cape May, DE, MD and possibly Va through March. I have gotten multiple double digits down south but my PB is out of NJ as we have some of the best blackfishing and best capts in our backyard. I believe you have a better shot at double digits as you head south as they do not get the pressure that we get up north. That being said on a lot of these trips you are fishing for that one bite so do not expect to fill the cooler especially when fishing certain boat in MD. You may only catch a few but you may catch a 15 pounder and loose the pool.

If you would like to be added to list send me your contact info via PM. I will reply with my contact info in case you have trip put together and are looking for someone
