![]() Still not many details. Reported @250pm(ish). 2 miles long? 400 yards wide?
Strong West wind and outgoing tide. Most that were responding were getting on site as it got dark. don't get confused by the spill that was reported years ago...it comes up if you search SH oil spill

![]() A week ago I was fishing on the Capt Cal 2 and I noticed what looked like a oil slick similar to gas floating on the water. Couldn't quite figure out where it was coming from because it was coming from the bow of the boat. It was hard sometimes to reel up and put fresh bait on because I waited until the slick moved enough so I wouldn't run my bait through it. I wonder if it was the same slick.

![]() We were out back in October and noticed a dark brown trail following a tanker on its way out of the reach channel. It was by the bug light with a west wind and outgoing tide, like today. Thought it might be kicking up mud but it was riding high because it just unloaded. We never reported it but now I'm thinking we should have said something to someone.

![]() John - Not sure if you knew but there is a dredging project going on in Leonardo State marina... One of the work boats was tied up overnight in the marina during this most recent Noreaster and it apparently sunk in one of the slips. Not sure but that may have been the cause of the oil slick..

![]() USCG was due to have a press conference today at 1130. They were investigating all possible sources-that were upwind. They knew about the Leonardo Marina. The investigation may have also involved samples that could identify the type and source of the spill.
Experts on site estimated with previous experience that it could have been anywhere from 500-2500 gallon spill of light diesel. Not a heavy oil spill. Although there may have been a fish or two that were found the cause of mortality may not be identified. As of 10 am there didn't appear to be any major negative results from the spill. Of course this is not official information and only my opinion based on some info that I've been made aware of. All the usual agencies were involved. I heard that the clam beds were closed but no info about why or the parameters of what needed to be done for them to open back up.
