Default Opinions, Please, on Tsunami TSAWIC-701MLF!

My kids want to chip in and buy me a rod for Xmas, but they don't have too much money. Found the Tsunami TSAWIC-701MLF online for a decent price. Would it be a good choice for the inshore fluking, sea bass, porgy fishing off party boats and the occasional charter? I already own a heavier version which works well for blackfish. Any help is appreciated.
Also, suggestions for a matching reel would help: My birthday's coming soon.

I think the 8 - 14 pound line rating for that pole is a bit light but I guess if you are looking strickly for a lighter set up it will be OK. You are certainly going to be hard pressed to fish more then 3 ounce sinkers on it so it is going to limit your use.

I have the 20 - 65 pound version of the Airwave and use it for everything from jigging Fluke, live lining Stripers to bottom fishing for Blackfish. I have it strung with 30 pound braid and teamed it up with an Avet SXJ. Probably overkill for inshore porgies and sea bass though.

Either way, I think the Avet SXJ or SX, if you want to go a little bigger are a good match up.

Personally I'd go with the 701H which will allow for a more broad range of applications while still giving good sensitivity. Also...match it with the Lexa 300 which is a bit lighter

Gerry's suggestion would be the way to go if you're looking for a "do everything" inshore set up. This is where I would go with 2 set ups with one lighter for fluke, sea bass porgies...etc, and a second one for Bass, Blues and Tog.

I have a 701TXH conventional. rated 2-8 0z. Good for all the inshore stuff you mention.
8 oz is a bit much in my opinion, but it will handle it.
Just mounted a used avet sxj on it. The combo is great. Me---not so good as a fisherman.

Also have a 701 MH spinning outfit, rated 1/2--2 oz w/ a Penn Battle.

Bought both of these Tsunamis within the last 4 years at the Hi-Mar show in February at the VFW in Middletown.
I'll be there again this winter I hope.
Great deals there if you can wait for your Christmas gift.
Tight lines,
Tom K.

Great suggestions, but I wouldn't recommend the 300HS, go with the 300H! The H version has a lot more balls then the HS, you won't be sorry! The paddle handles actually aren't bad as compared to the power handle. If you call Yong at Jigging World you can get the 300H for MSRP price, but it'll include one of his custom power handles that are sweet! But I agree in general the Lexa 300H or Avet SXJ reels are your best bets.

Jer, the TSAWIC-701MH Airwave is better suited to your fishing. It's a bit heavier than the one you're looking at.

Thanks. Am deciding between the MH and the H. Either way I'll have it soon!
Enjoy the holiday.
