![]() This was my second canyon trip on the jenny lee and hopefully not my last. This is a class operation from dock to dock!
I joined Joey dah fish, sven of the hook (Tim), njdave, and a couple of lurker friends of his. Capts Dave and Kevin would take us to the edge and back. Headed out in sporty seas but this boat handled it like it was a little chop. Got to the edge and got the spread out. No takers on the troll so we decided to throw the hook early and try to get a late day chunk bite going. I was lucky enough to get the first touch after only twenty minutes. I let the fish run a bit, pushed the lever drag up started to reel, came tight and drove the owner cutting point hook home! 10-15 minutes later I landed a nice 50 pound longfin. Next one of the guys came tight on a jig and we landed another long fin. Next it was joeys turn with another LF on a chunk. Very good start! Then things got a little quite for a while. I went in and took a nap around midnight and woke up to a 200 pound sword hitting the deck. Then a mahi and a yellow fin. The night was capped off by a 30 foot whale shark swimming in our lights. Fantastic sight! Things got quiet again for a few hours. The light came up but no love. We were trying to decide what to do (go up on the troll or stick out the chunk) when njdave hooked into a beast he could not move on a jig. Then Kevin hooks into another beast that hit like a train and started dumping a torsha 16 on a travala. Dave's became unbuttoned at that point and capt Kevin passed his fish to another angler. There was no stopping this fish, even at full drag. We quickly pulled the lines and the anchor and the chase was on! Everyone had a chance to fight this fish on this little tiny set up. In fact it may have gone around twice. I was on the rod when we finally got the leader on the spool. Bang, two minutes later a 180-200 lbs eye hit the deck! Final tally for the team was three longfin, one very nice sword, one yellow, one mahi and the big eye. As far as I'm concerned it was a great trip. Not a crazy bite but we landed some exotics. Great boat crew and friends! Thanks for the invite. It was another great night on the jenny lee!

![]() Congrats on ANOTHER successful JL trip guys. What I have always loved about the Jenny Lee Canyon trips is Capt Dave and Kevins passion for just being out there. Then when the fish come they light up and hard to tell who is more excited, us or them. Then there is no one better than that crew for getting the big boys to the boat. As we all know "stuff" always happens during the fight and those guys almost always seem to get the fish back into the anglers favor and bring it home. That's where their experience kicks in on top of the passion.
Well done by all and wish I could have been there.

![]() SS,
Great trip! Every trip doesn't have to have a mad dog bite to be an epic trip. A 200 lb class be and a trophy sword, those are both fish of a life time in many people's books. I'd actually prefer having the bites spread out a bit like your trip, nothing like the anticipation a few hours in between bites creates. Then when you get the bite you've been waiting for, it's even more of a rush than a mad dog bite in my opinion. A great trip on a great boat. Congrats. Dakota |
