Default Pompton River

Guys, sorry for the mix up but the boat ramp access I was supposed
to inquire about was the Pompton River not the Ramapo.
I was talking to a fellow sportsmen and he said he launched right
by Rt. 202 across from the Pinebrook Grill. If anyone can provide additional information and is this ramp still accessible to the public it would be
GREATLY appreciated.

Again Thank You in advance!!!

There are a few access. You have Aquaduct park in Lincoln Park off 202 (Booton Tpke) just west of Rt 23 which is close to the Passaic River confluence. There is a ramp that's good for small boats. There is also a car top launch behind the Dunkin Donuts and Mc Cobbs off Hamburg Tpke in Wayne close to the beginning of the river.

How big is the boat? car top or trailer?
If it is car top i would throw it in behind the new Stop & shop on rt23 & pompton plains crossroad. easy access in the back of the parking lot.
from that point on is great fishing with some deep holes. I float that stretch a lot in a kayak.
The launch behind mccobs is a straight cliff! and you will hit (2) dams not too far down river.
The Pinebrook grill launch on 202 is good and will allow trailers to launch but you miss pretty much the whole river unless you go upstream.
The river is low and some spots are only 1ft of water or less so i would not put anything in but a flatbottom or layak unless you are far down river like pinebrook launch. but then you miss prime fishing spots.

I will be launching a 17 ft Tracker so I guess the
pinebrook grill section will have to do. The guy I
was talking to launched a Nitro. He did catch some
good fish.

Watch your depths out there. Muddy to gravelly bottom with random snags. It gets shallow and rocky under the Two Bridges Road bridge if you venture down that far.

With the river this low I don't think I'd take a boat of any size out there, esp using a gas motor. You could get away with electric if you don't go too deep with it. I paddled that section in the late summer a few years ago and there were a lot of shallow bars.

I launched my kayak from there this summer. The ramp and the parking lot are all still open. The ramp is made of paving stones, so it can handle a boat. I don't know how high the water is there, though. I would imagine it's quite shallow right now.

I just can't get into that urban fishing, no matter what they stock there.
I paddled upstream past that dam where the swamp is and up to Route 23, and I couldn't shake the feeling that this place feels dirty. Paddling through people's backyards while the families are eating and doing yard work just felt creepy to me. Like I was intruding or something.

Give me the green bucolic scenery of a rural river freshly cleaned by Andy any day.

I know exactly how you feel. I felt the same way when I was on the Passaic, paddling past debris dumped on the banks. I go fishing in part to get away from that stuff.

Thanks for all the great info. I do agree I like to get
away to more greener pastures that is why I go to the
sheds most often. However I am always looking to explore
new areas and the Pompton even though not the most
scenic or cleanest it is rather close and could be a good
spot for a short trip when time short on a week with a tight
schedule.
