![]() Hey all,
I take the ferry every day from edgewater to 39th street, this morning I saw one of the coolest sights ever. I was zoned out gazing at the water and saw about an 7' sturgeon go totally airborne! I was a bit in shock when I saw it, the thing clearly got about ten feet clear out of water, it looked like a missile being launched from a sub. Very very cool thought I would share. |

![]() Nice - Seems like there are a lot of them around this year.... We see them in the lower bay once and a while, usually more frequently in the spring.

![]() Most of the time people just hear a splash as though someone dropped a concrete block from the sky....
I saw quite a few breaching around the tip of SH on Tuesday. ![]()

![]() We were fishing underneath the Verazzano bridge a few years back and one about the size you mentioned came clear out of the water three consecutive times maybe 25 feet from our boat. First time like shresearchdude said I thought someone threw something at us off the bridge, but it came up twice more in the same spot within maybe 15 seconds. Very very cool, it's pretty amazing to see them doing so well in the Hudson especially since the population seems to have plummeted around the world. Does anyone know if anyone targets them recreationally if that's even allowed. Would be a helluva fish to catch, take a picture and release.

![]() Yeah I was reading all about them at work yesterday, it's good to see that they are very protected and valued part of the ecosystem. I thought the coolest part was this thing jumped legit with the view of mid town Manhattan behind him, if anyone has ever taken the ferry to pier 79 they probably know how it's a mad house with ferry traffic in the morning. Maybe I'll hook up with one on the next desperate day I am forced to fish the hudson, would be much more fun then the giant eels and mutant catfish I normally catch.
