Default Late Manasquan Tournament Report-Bigeye and Wahoo

Fished the Manasquan tournament last week with a great crew. Had Don, the owner of Canyon Reels on the boat, along with Pete, Mark, Trevor, Andrew, and our Father. RJ and i insisted upon leaving right at 12 a.m. to get out there and get our bigeye before the crowd rolled in for the weekend. We chugged out at 20 knots in some snotty weather but the plan came together when our long bait(a purple/black laceration lure snack With a circle hook) went down around 7 a.m.. Got a good hookup on the fish and he came right to the boat the first time and we thought it was a 50lb yellowfin because there was no fight at all. Once i saw him 30ft down though i prepared everyone for a big run and that he did. The eyeball realized what was going on and took back another 200 yds. After that it was a typical eyeball fight and got him back to the boat, sunk two gaffs in the head, and pulled him over. Knew he was going to be close to the right size.

Trolled the whole time. Put a long fin in the box later that day then right before we reeled the lines in for the tournament a nice wahoo hooked up on the red/silver laceration snack. The owner of Canyon reels got on the rod and whooped him right into the boat. Ended up winning the wahoo category with that fish. Our Bigeye hit the scales at 178lbs and we ended up 6 lbs shy of placing.

All in all another great tournament with a great crew. All fish were caught on Laceration Lure Snack hair lures. They have been the trick for all of our bigeye this season. We sell all Laceration Lure products on our website.
