Default Jamaican Princess Aug 4th/5th Canyon overnighter smack down!

Sorry for the late report, cleaned up from this trip and immediately left for a couple days’ vacation with the misses, this is the first chance I’ve had to get a post up.

Pointed the Princess east for a fun trip with the crew, leaving Monday afternoon and pulling into the Canyon around 4:00 in the afternoon. Lines in and 10 min’s into the troll…Fish On! Our excitement however was short lived when we realized it was a small rat, legal but still small. I convinced the crew to release it and the Tuna gods would reward us for our actions. Back up and an hour later, after a couple more short and just legal fish we come tight on a decent fish, only to lose it feet from the boat. At this point the guys are saying Tuna gods my a$$. Ended the day going 0 for 1 on real fish, releasing a several shorts and just legal fish. With gorgeous condition and only a handful of boats in the area we decided to drift. A couple swigs and misses right away and we setup and finally land a nice fish. Up on the troll at first light and get monster hit, stop the boat start clearing lines but the fish never stopped, dumped an entire 50 with 22lbs of drag in less than 2 minutes. Trolled around the rest of the morning without a sniff, was getting ready to relocate when another boat said they were getting fish on the chunk, so with just a few baits and a half of flat left over we decided to give it a go. 15 mins into our first drift and we land a nice 60lb class fish, repeated this routine until the boxes were full and crew exhausted, the tuna goods had truly smiled upon us!!

Again, I have some real good video but need some bad weather to sit in front of my computer and edit it down. Back on the blue fin grounds this coming weekend and then hopefully back out to the canyons the follow week. Tuna fishing has been good both inshore and off, hope it holds up!!
