Default Are trout this year safe for consumption?

Rarely keep fish but I bring one home every year as a little treat! With all of this disease business in the trout this year I wondered if they could be harmful. Thanks for any info.

Eating the trout will only be harmful to the trout.

Where did you see the trout looking like month old Salmon? At the meeting a couple of weeks ago they didn't mention any discoloration of the fish.

The meds will be out of their systems by stocking time, and even if there were any disease left in them (which there ought not to be) it cannot infect humans because our bodies are 20+ degrees above lethal temp for the bacteria. Should be perfectly safe to eat.

Have no intentions of eating any fish that have been fed antibiotics. Only the ones that will be stocked in certain streams and rivers that were supposedly not diagnosed with the disease.

I would think if you cook it you're good....most fish from anywhere have the potential to naturally carry bacteria, parasites, etc. And farm raised is usually treated with meds to prevent disease....so these fish are most likely no different then anything else we eat. Just my take on it.

Now if you're so brave as to indulge in a little Shore Side Jersey Sashimi then.....well God be with you my friend! The Furunculosis will probably be the last of your worries!

I think most people are more worried about the antibiotic they were given. Can we believe it won't cause problems down the road? It's not like the government can be trusted to tell us the truth anymore.
