Default S/B Raritan Deep water?

Good Morning,

I'm thinking about heading to the river today, hopefully pick up some sexy fish!

Does anyone know of any deeper water on the river? Any information would help. I've been exploring a lot as of late. Yesterday spent the day in Califon (skunked) and then drove to Mt. Olive, fished for an hour, hooked up for a second, as quickly as it was fish on! it was fish off! (skunked again).

I know we haven't gotten much rain. Water levels were low, no matter where I fished. Don't get me wrong there are some hip high pools and knee deep runs, but I haven't seen any deeper water than that.

Does anyone have any insight?

Thats a smart way of asking for all the best spots

As far as i know , the hole in the wall is the deepest spot
on the whole river..

Bigfishy, you're not going to divulge your Honey Hole? I was hoping to get "grandfathered in" to all of your secret spots, including your seat at the Christmas Table.

I live a good distance from the S/B I fished the Upper portion, all the way down to the Gorge. I was going to continue searching, just figured some people would PM me saving me exploratory time and allow more time for wetting the line. Thank you to those, who did PM me. Much appreciated.

The "deepest spots" are not always the "best spots".

Novice stream fisherman pass up any water where the surface is broken or ripply. They mistakenly assume that it's too fast and too shallow for trout. If you look carefully, that water could have slack-water pockets. A small pocket behind a rock may be home to a nice sized trout, even though the water is less than a foot deep.

I didn't figure you for a novice BF?

Just busting your chops!

Best of Luck out there!

Deep water on the S.B.

Higginsville road bridge, also neshanic station tressel bridge, going down stream from there past the river road bridge, the river bends to the right, about half way between river road and Opie road bridge, is a deep hole. There is also a deep hold on the Raritan after the confluence. Park at the confluence and cross over the bridge to the Duke Island Park side, then walk the bank heading down stream until you get to the cliff. there is a little ledge to stand on at the base of the cliff. Hope that helps!
