good point and also for the ice guys goin out this year, dont let fish flop on the ice, their gills freeze and eyeballs too

Definitely a good post! I see alot of supposed 'Pros' doing this all the time. Not as bad to do to a LMB but smallies definitely cannot handle this type of handling!
The other common death sentence many anglers commit is the gill grab, particularly on any trout/salmonid species. Take a look at any of the popular salmon/steelhead sites for the pics of big steelies with fingers in their gills and captions reading 'release to fight another day' et al. Ehh, not likely.

Much grreed with dave...The further stay away from ANY fishes gills the better off the fish are....Get a cradle instd....that way threre is a near 0 mortality rate...Just couple cents worth
