1st shave of the season

Well, I can't complain about yesterday, we have had a lot less liked opening days. Picked our first spot planning that we would be all over the place and we were...ughhh , but still had a constant bite thru the swingage. Soon as we settled in at 150• on the anchor , reset to game on toggin, nothing super, but not many shorts, most were keeps like 6-1. Had that bite I was waiting for, set the hook and wham! This is where I like the action of the E-glass fish poison. Unfortunately it only lasted at most 5 seconds. My first shave off this year Wound up w boat limit: @ SHR btw, but it was a continual work in progress. It was on then off for a bit and so on..

Hear is a question: what pound leader do you use? I'm at 50 mono and thinking of stepping up to 80 floro, had some other isssues in the past as well but don't like to go too heavy. Opinions are appreciated.

I use a 40' mono leader attached to a rig made of 50' fluorocarbon and it seems to work fine, I think for toggin 80 might be too heavy but it's a matter of preference

Ya, that's how I feel. Then ya get that one that ya think: would it have hit the heavier, would I have not gotten the full shave... And I like the palomar as knot of choice... I use 40 pound leader material but ill retie my set up frequently as any time i feel a fray i get paranoid. also using braided line i feel i can tie tighter knots with a smaller diameter mono. Now all this advise brings about the truth. I pretty much suck at tog fishing and haven't caught very many "slobs"!!! So do what you will.

I use 50 pp braid uni to 50 mono works for great for most bites and depths..if I am fishing deep water later season I will go 60 lb...I personally feel flouro always frays and fail if your on really sticky bottom..80 lb way to heavy and is hard to Snell a hook or tie a uni.. when you set the hook don't let them dig rip that baby off the bottom get them up then you can give them some drag the last run 10 ft from the boat is usually the best.. Every tog is different!!!

I used to mess around with 40, but I busted off a monster and after that retied eeverything with 60 mono. I go with 50pp, top shot of 60 mono, and loop to loop connection to breakaway rig made of 60 with 40 as loop for sinker. 60 is the heaviest I can tie effectively and well have not had a reason to jump to 80. Dont have problems with getting bites and I use 60 from the canal to the deep. dont be afraid of going heavy. the 12# I got last year broke off the sinker just like it was supposed to.

60 goes to snelled hook(s) with dropper 12"-15" up from hook. Then the 40 is short piece with a loop at each end, 1 for sinker and 1 to attatch to dropper, and an overhand knot in between.
