Default The future is very bright on the Susquehanna

I returned to the Susqy for probably my last kayak outing of the year. After Tuesdays outing, with the lack of bigger fish, I went scouting in different areas of the same location. On Tuesday I caught alot of fish but I had nothing over 17 inches. It appears that the bass have concentrated in areas closer to their wintering spots. Every choice spot in these areas held fish. In some spots i would only get 2 or 3 fish and in others up to 25 fish. With the water being low I found that switching to a 1/16 ounce lead head kept me out of the snags more. 90% of the fish were taken on tubes but topwater, jerkbaits, and grubs also produced. My biggest was 19" with 6 at 18". What is so encouraging is that between 3 of us we caught at least 150 fish 15-16 inches. In another 2 to 3 years these will be some beautiful fish. I just hope that they keep this area a no kill area.

I think that you are right Andy. It used to kill me to see people with 20" smallmouth on a stringer. They are 15 years old and we need to protect that resource for everyone to enjoy.

And because of that new rule all the tribs. of the Suskie are fished and kept...out. Instead of buying bait use your money to buy food if you need to eat.
