Volunteers needed: The Knee Deep Club is working with the Lake Hopatcong Foundation with its lake wide cleanup effort scheduled during this year's 5' draw down. The cleanup is scheduled for Saturday November 9th.--8 AM-Noon--It is a rain or shine event, but incase of a really extraordinary and dangerous weather event the cleanup will be held the following Sat. Dumpsters will be placed around the lake, supplies made available and further details will follow once you sign up.
If you think of all of the extraordinary weather events that have occurred over the last five years, we should all be concerned with not just the possible environmental hazards but also the navigational hazards that may be exposed. The goal is to scour as much of the exposed lakebed and remove any debris and clean up the lake. Details about where and what we'll be doing will be provided once you join on the KDC Cleanup Team. Currently we have ten volunteers from just our Board of Officers & Trustees and are reaching out to the membership at large to add to our club's effort in support of this worthy cause.
Last time this was done was during the previous 5' drawdown in the fall of 2008 by the Lake Hopatcong Commission employees. Now that the LHC no longer has any employees we are grateful The Lake Hopatcong Foundation has taken on this challenge. The amount and type of debris that was removed last time was nothing short of disturbing. The Knee Deep Club has a Long Proud History of helping in the care of Lake Hopatcong and we hope you can lend a hand that day.
Tim Clancy will be the KDC point of contact and you should email him at
tim.clancy@verizon.net to get on his email list to be kept informed. Based on the volunteers from the board we have taken responsibility for one of the 30 designated sites. If we get a good response from members we will be looking to expand on that. Hopefully members on our email list can spend ˝ of one day to help improve the environment of Lake Hopatcong.
