Default Montauk Mid-November

I primarily fish out of Morgan but one weekend in mid-November (16th and 17th) I'm going to make the trip out to Montauk so I have a few questions:

-Are the bass still biting or have they migrated out of there by then
-Do you guys know of any charter boats that sail openboat for bass up there or if not can you reccomend a charter boat
-Are the Viking fleet boast the go-party boats

Any other advice or guidance would be appreciated as well.

Adam

1.) That depends on the fish. I've had action in past years up until x-mas.
2.) If the fish are there, the boat really won't matter as they're so thick you can almost walk on them--especially during the herring run.
3.) Viking is big & comfortable which is ideal in the winter on the North Atlantic. Other boats are in the water, too. But just like #2, if the fish are there, the boat won't matter.

Bring sabikis, metal, storm wild eye shads in bunker & herring pattern. Dress warm. And after a long day of fishing, go to The Dock for a bowl of NE clam chowder and a proper pint of Guinness! Remember, it's cash only there!

novemeber is hit or miss.. as said above I think its all about jigging live herring outside lake montauk inlet and then live lining them in the rips. some years it doesnt really materialize. I recommend reading this religously.. updated weekly all year round... all things montauk fishing.

The “rat patrol” continues to be the only action for stripers. They are still off the south side eating sand eels along with lots of bluefish, and there is nothing in front of the Lighthouse. But virtually everyone has to be measured, and don’t forget that you can squeeze the tails. With the mild weather we’ve had so far this fall, you’d expect that we’ll have fish here into December, and there are reports that there are plenty of fish in Massachusetts waters. It would be nice if some bigger ones would come along.

I’m not into surfcasting but it seems like those guys are finally getting some action, I assume all on the south side.

In the ongoing Montauk Surfmasters tournament the leaders are as follows:

2nd PlaceRichie Michaelson37.64lb9/23/13

3rd PlaceSam Doughty26.36lb10/20/13

2nd PlaceMary Ellen Kane19.35lb9/29/13

Bottom fishing for porgies and seabass is still good locally. So you don’t have to plan on a long run over to Block Island yet. But some bad news from the Feds. Seabass closes in federal waters Nov 9. This is especially painful because it won’t be long before the only seabass will be in those waters.

WOW! I guess, this business is getting tough to manage. It's sad to see it happen. Thanks to all the rules and regulations, it's hurting every one.

Is that comfirmed that Jamie is selling? I look forward to fluke fish with him. Is he getting another boat or just getting out of the business? Every time I went with him, he always had a nice crowd and his slip is in a great location.

Don't panic about the miss Montauk. I'm pretty sure he is looking to upgrade. He is not going anywhere.

Back to the thread

Black fishing is also great out there that time of year.

Ive had one of my best days ever in november and some of my worst. It really goes by the year. if the herring are there and you see ganets on them, chances are fishing is really good, if not, Who knows? for me the past two years in november has been mostly rats in the surf, but that can change. Pm me if you would like the names of some smaller boats that will get you on the fish.
