Default !!!!tog Time!!!!

Played hookie today to make out to the wrecks after two weeks of wind. Stopped on some birds only to find snappers chasing rain fish and nothing underneath. Anchored up and immediately had life. First keeper comes over the rail at 15 1/2", bait up again and bahm, a very hard fighting fish which peeled drag several times, New it had some weight to her so of course time to get the net. We see a big white chin come from the deep. Threw the fish on the boga and went 11lbs and was released. Continued the day with good action boating around 40 keepers, only keeping our legal limit. The fish was caught on a jig with a light spinning rod. If you have the patience to do this, this is hands down the best way to tog in the right conditions.

Light spinning and jig is the best way to go, did you fish the jig all day.

Sounds like alot of fun.

I have only bait fished for Tog. Would you mind posting details (type of tackle, jigs, etc) of how to use this technique?

Thank
John

If did not fish the jig all day. When my buddy started swinging them over the rail every drop, the it was time to switch over to the conventional method. Jigging has its time and place in deeper water.
The gear is a spinning outfit I use for buck tailing for fluke or plugs for bass, braid and top shot. The jigs that I use have been taken out of production but there are more companies that make similar ones. They need to have strong hooks as others I tried would have the hooks straighten out. When fishing deeper water you just need to be patient, keep your eye on the rod tip and your finger on the line.

Sam the Sinkerman casts a real nice inexpensive banana jig, been using them for a couple seasons now, he uses quality Mustad hooks, been taking tog up to 8-9# with no hook problems. Hope to test the hooks this weekend.
