Tuna Jigging

OK so I decided to sell my 8 foot tuna jigging stick and downsize to a 5'9" jigging rod. Looking to switch more towards Japanese style jigging vs Northeast jigging. I've caught a ton of tuna on hammered diamond jigs and Norwegian cod jigs but what are some good Japanese style jigs? I have some Shimano butterfly jigs that I would get tired of using for tuna because of the long heavy NE rod. Can't wait to jig with this lightweight rod at the Hudson next week!

Hammered diamonds and metallic sardines are great. Some of my favorite Japanese jigs arre FCL Labor, Seven seas hooker, and the original shimano butterfly jig are all very effective. A hint try doing the same old up and down or just a slow lift and crank. It typically works much better than "speed jigging" for tuna.

So I guess speed jigging these Japanese jigs isn't very productive for yellowfin on thy east coast?

Every technique has its moments but in general a slow to moderate retrieve works best for tuna. Hammered Diamonds, Super Sardine, H4L Mungus, Shimano Flatsides, and OTI Jagers are amongst my most commonly used jigs for NE tuna. Have a mixed bag of styles, sizes, colors, and so forth because on any given day they may want something specific... and some days they may bite anything or nothing at all.

8 to 10 oz hammered metal....I do not think color matters....

Just bought 2 of these in 7oz silver and pink/silver could not find the gold.
