carol and stu allen quality not quantity record setting catch!!

capt's jimmy gahm and dave bender took carol and stuart allen of plainfield, new jersey out to the wilmington canyon for an overnighter. the allens are avid flyrodders and wanted to try their hand at it offshore. we are open to anything and said " let's have at it". we arrived at the wilmington only to find out from the boats there that it was very slow, and some very good fisherman had a tough day. we put em in and did what we do. we had a bite after several hours of trolling that pulled off a ton of line but we pulled the hook. later in the afternoon as the sun was lowering we had a huge hole in the water and our shimano terez rod with a talica 25 was screaming, i grabbed the rod while jimmy ran down and cleared the others, just as i was going to hand the rod to carol, here she comes... a monster blue marlin.. a monster. we strapped carol in and she gave it her best.. but it was a mismatch to say the least. we then handed the rod to stu and he did a great job.. in the end with a little assistance from jimmy.. we released the largest blue marlin in our careers.. i've caught many and a few at 700 hundred pounds, this fish dwarfed those.. that's all i'll say, i won't guess.
after the smoke cleared we set up for the night, but as expected it was uneventful. back on the troll wednesday morning saw the same as the previous day, no action. at 845 am jimmy and i said we'd leave at 9:15 if we had no bites, i jumped back down into the pit and the terez rod goes screaming once again, this time it was a bigeye tuna. stu was once again in the chair and did a great job fighting the fish, once again with some minor assistance from jimmy, we had him in the boat.. 160 pounds! although the allens didn't get to catch any fish on a fly, they had an epic trip. we take them two more times so hopefully we can get that white marlin on his fly. pictures to follow on the monster blue, carol has video and still photos.

Its a bigeye but I totally can see what you mean.. that photo makes it look exactly like a bluefin.. the way they are holding it... the fish looks longer and leaner towards the tail with a massive head just like a bluefin.. def an eyeball though . great report !
