![]() Ran an open boat trip today which was scheduled as a fluke marathon trip with John O, Dr. John, Jake, Tanner, and Pat Sr. and Jr. The plan was to start out the day targeting ling and cod because fluking has been so slow then finish up inshore for fluke when the breeze kicked in.
Ran off 15 or so miles to our first wreck in 120', but found little life on it with just a couple of ling, one seabass, and a few pout. Moved off a bit more to fish some higher rubble in the 90-110' range and had a few more ling and pout, and a load of bergalls. A few boats around us hooked a few cod, but we were unable to get any in the boat. I then decided to push off quite a few more miles to fish a wreck in ~240'. Got set up on it, couldn't anchor b/c we had no wind or current, so we drifted. As soon as the rigs hit bottom, it was lock and load ling slingin' about as good as it gets. When we were on the wreck, we had all 6 rods doubled over, with several double headers coming up. Mixed sized ling from hot dogs to almost 4# were what we had, and the bite was VERY good! We also had one winter flounder out there, one sea raven, and a few more pout. By noontime the guys had enough as their arms and backs were on fire from reeling up so many ling, so we shot back inshore to finish up the day fluke fishing. Started at 1 to the NE of our inlet, and had very few bites. Once the SE breeze kicked in we got a little bite going on top of a hill where we had about 6-7 shorts, and 3 nice keepers to 3.5# in about 2.5 hours of fluke fishing. We also boated one unicorn "pee-wee" sized bluefish and had a VERY LUCKY triggerfish swimming around the boat that we couldn't hook and couldn't free-net ![]() By day's end we had around 150 ling in the box, the 3 keeper fluke, and the 1 bluefish. It was real good seeing the triggerfish inshore and seeing a bluefish, my buddy also had a couple of blues out in the deep. The water is definitely cleaning up and WARMING UP! Overall it was An excellent day of fishing with a GREAT CREW and the guys went home with LOADS of meat. Can't ask for more!!! Last edited by Reel Class; 07-15-2013 at 05:09 AM.. |

![]() First time out on Reel Class yesterday. Captain Allen and mate Kenny were awesome. The fishing was great but regardless of that, you can tell that it is a well run operation that really wants to make sure you have a quality experience. Perfect day on the water and had a good group of guys to share in the ling slaughter. - John
