Default mako mania 2013 saturday 6/22/13 dave daly

capt's kevin gerrity had dave the bigeye slayer daly, mike sharkispy, todd and friends out for the jcsa and mako mania combined. we were greeted by a very light breeze about 50 miles offshore and started our slick, it wasn't long before a small mako came through that we released, and then we lost our drift. we had to power troll all day and i guess it payed off as we had about a dozen or so bites. we released a second mako and lost one in the afternoon that we would have harvested, but somehow he got caught up in the main line and was free to get larger. we 'll see these guys again for their tuna trip, as always it's a pleasure to fish with these guys, although we were all disapointed we didn't weigh in a fish.. they get it, they fish hard.

Capt Dave / Kevin
I can speak on behalf of the whole crew that while slightly disappointed we didn't head to the scales all that was discussed after the trip was the EFFORT put forth to get us there. Glad to see you got one on Sunday.

Going offshore all you can ask for is a decent location where fish "may" reside on that given day and an honest chance to catch if they decide to show. We got all of that and more. No wind makes sharking almost impossible and we had NO wind.
Power drifting like that all day, staying on course and keeping the baits in the spread properly is no easy task but the reason we had the bites. Again EFFORT. Bait was pristine, variety ample and chum (8 buckets I think)
not to mention fuel not spared.

As Dave stated we had over a dozen bites, we all got to wrestle with a Blue Dog or two and pitched baits to Makos on Bluefish Rods. Whales, Sea turtles and life all day. Only problem was we had the double digit Makos not the triple digit ones which is out of anyones control. But good to see numbers of smaller fish out there.

Odd to me was 2 of the small makos being lethargic when hooked, just kind of laid there as if they didn't have a care in the world. We were like come on, move you are on light tackle.

If you have not had the pleasure to fish with Dave, Kevin and Jimmy on the Jenny Lee, it SHOULD get on your bucket list as you will not be disappointed

Thanks for a another great offshore adventure and let me know when the tuna bite meets your expectations without steaming to Egypt. The trip will be easy to fill.

Great crew with Sharkispy Mike, Todds crew and Ed. No one left the cockpit and Todds crew provided the Prosciutto, Mozzarella, Olives, Roasted Peppers and Parmesean wedges. like I needed another 10 pounds

Congrats to the Winners and we will be back at it soon.

Dave/Kevin, as I posted previously and I know Dave D and I discussed, you guys did all you could to find us life out there in the conditions we had which were not favorable by any means for sharking. You spared no expense, that's all we could ask for the A+ effort. I'm not missing the offshore tuna trip this year providing weather window/work align... . I need to concur with Dave on the opportunity to fish on the Jenny Lee. You will not be let down by the effort and passion that Capt Dave and Kevin have for fishing, I fish a lot and appreciate when I'm on a great boat with a great crew, this is definitely one of those in my books!
