Default Pretty Epic Night -- Clark Res 06/04/13

Hit the ol' stomping grounds yet again last night. This time I started in an area by the parkway. Managed 4 fish from dinks to about 14" in the first hour or so. Then I drove around to another section where I've been doing much better with larger fish. My move did NOT disappoint. Had 3 more fish in about 15 min--again, dinks to about 14-15". Just as I was walking out I decided to make a quick stop and try the ol' one more cast routine. I was losing light but was able to see and hear swirls and fish popping the surface. First cast, WHAMMO! My senko was barely in the water for 2 seconds and a fish that was about 16" or so nailed it. C-P-R... Re-rig the senko and cast again. WHAMMO! This time a much nicer fish. Estimated length based off of my rod butt was between 18-19" and broad. C-P-R. Re-rig the senko and cast 2-3 more times and hooked up again. Smaller fish about 13". Same thing... Re-rig... Few more casts and nailed another cookie cutter dink. The last 4 fish were on the same senko. Trimmed the head back after each. It started as a 5" senko and wound up ending its night as a 4" lol.

Finished with 11 LMBs to about 4 lbs. Three in the 2 lb range... The rest were smaller. Quite the night! Here's some pics.

Catch em' up!

Long story short (and believe it or not), but my fishing passion resides offshore targeting pelagics. I fish sweet water to scratch my itch until the canyons and shark grounds warm up a bit (like now-ish).

The Shimano Tiagra 50WLRSA and 30WLRSAs (and Penn International 50w and 30w) that we use offshore for tuna, sharks, etc are spooled with #100 and #130 jerry brown hollowcore...and LOTS of it! I guess you can compare it using braid. To provide the desired stretch effect we add mono top shots (wind-ons) of jinkai or momoi in the 50-100 ft variety (sometimes smaller) @ about 100 lb test.

Although the initial investment is steep for the hollowcore line, it lasts several yrs depending on usage and all that needs to be replaced is the top shots.
