Default Fishing Quote

Came across this quote. What is your interpretation of this quote?

“Many men go fishing all of their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after.” Henry David Thoreau

Its not about catching fish or stackin the freezer with "meat" or like some describe the day as a slaughter. Its the experience. We drive 4 hours to go toggin Alex with every intent on releasing trophy's to swim another day. Many times capt Ron has seen me put the rod in the holder and walk up on the sun deck in the middle of a hot bite and just watch. I'm a happy customer whether I catch or not. We meet some of the best ppl in our lives on the water. We see whales breaching the surface, dolphins swimming off the bow, seals poking there head above the water from time to time, gannets diving in the water and making it just as far under the water as from where they started in the sky. We see the most gorgeous sunrises and sunsets and sometimes a sky and sea so nasty it reaffirms where we truly stand and we're at her mercy. We truly are blessed to have these experiences because the majority of people in this country don't have this luxury. Something to think about next time you wet a line and complain about the fishing. (Not you Alex cause I know you think like me)

Totally agree with M Rod, more about the experience than filling the freezer. From start to finish, nothing beats a day on the water whether the fish are biting or not.

Ditto on M Rod. If I relied on fishing to fill the freezer, I'd only be 100 lbs

For me it's all about the being out on the water and enjoying the company of friends and family. A lot of times I don't even put a rod in the water and just hang out and take everything in.

Just getting out is a treat catching is a bonus. For the most part I am a catch and release guy. Being on the water and watching a pollution enhanced raritab bay sun set with good friends and family is just the greatest. Building fishing stories, laughs and great memories is really what it's all about!!!

Next time you happen to go out on a boat or even on the beach and it's a slow day look around. I am sure their is a little guy or girl who is looking to do something when you have one hooked. Ask the mate or look around and you will have TWO hooked for life, been their done that and keep the camera ready .

This is the best fishing quote that I have ever read. It's as follows :

FISHING

To go fishing is the chance to wash one's soul with pure air, with the rush of the brook, or with the shimmer of the sun on blue water. It brings meekness and inspiration from the decency of nature, charity towards tackle makers, patience toward fish, a mockery of profits and egos, a quieting of hate, a rejoicing that you do not have to decide a damned thing until next week. And it is discipline in the equality of men....For all men are equal before fish........ Herbert Hoover.......

I think that is the interpretation of the first quote posted by MVP........

As I matter of fact, I have the last sentence of this quote tattooed below a tattoo of a striped bass on my left arm. Great tat and a greater quote......
