![]() I hoped to find a day to do some fishing last weekend. Sunday was the day. I opted to do some Fluke Fishing at the back of the Shark River Bay. I went from 5:00A.M.-Noon.
I went to the bulkhead near the Tennis Courts. As expected, upon arrival I saw anglers up and down the bulkhead bailing fluke. From the time I was there, I saw two 22/23 inchers-3+lbers and one 5lber jigged right off the bulkhead, along with a bunch of other keepers and countless shorts.. A ton of action, great action at that. The rental boats drifting right along the bulkhead were, as expected, doing phenomenal as well. The fish were hitting Chartruse, White, and the darker colored New Penny Gulps. Fresh spearing was also working great by the anglers who were using it. The action slowed as the tide let up around 9:30 A.M. I, beleive it or not, had no fish the whole 4 hours I was there. I only had a few hits. I was, generally, using heavier tackle, and it didn't really match up to the shallow water and light current of this area. Around 10:00 A.M., I decided to move to the bulkhead off of First Ave, just before the Ocean Ave Bridge, which is a much more suited spot for my equipment. In a short period, I had two keepers, just before it was time to leave. Chartruse Gulp and a white Tsunami Squid teaser was the poison. One was right at the mark and the other was at 19 inches. I was glad to get some action in just before the much colder ocean water made it into the river. Nice start! It was nice to have Panko Fluke again... ![]() SNAPPERHEAD
